Two different label ideas
SPF primarily communicates tested sunburn protection associated with UVB. Broad spectrum is a separate label designation tied to protection across UVA and UVB ranges.
Read the exact package
Catalog titles and retailer summaries can omit qualifiers. Confirm the broad-spectrum wording on the current package or authoritative product information rather than assuming it.
Do not substitute marketing terms
Words such as daily, sport, mineral, sheer, or sensitive do not establish broad-spectrum status. They describe other product characteristics or claims.
Use multiple protective measures
Broad-spectrum sunscreen does not block all ultraviolet radiation. Clothing, hats, sunglasses, and shade remain useful parts of a broader plan.

Reviewed evidence used in this guide
A broad-spectrum sunscreen has passed the applicable test for protection across UVA and UVB radiation; broad-spectrum status should be checked separately from SPF.
Sunscreen works best as one part of a broader sun-protection approach that can also include shade, protective clothing, a brimmed hat, and sunglasses.
